The does and don'ts of dealing with art theft. So you're browsing deviations and you come across stolen art. It may even be your own. There are no links back to the original artist. Of course, this is going to make you feel angry, even more so if it is your own art. Now it is time to take action... but exactly what is the best course of action to take? The does and don'ts of dealing with art theft. by LordSameth
Your very first step is to find the original piece of art. There are many times you think something is stolen, but upon closer inspection, it isn't. Always compare the suspected stolen image to the original. If you cannot find the original image, contact the artist you think did the original drawing with your suspicion, and they can deal with it from there. If you absolutely cannot find the original image, check the suspected stolen image for incorrect watermarks. If you cannot find one, then you are unable to prove the image was stolen. At this point it is not longer you problem, and you should LET IT GO; unless in the future you are able to prove it belongs to someone else.
Groups: Community vs. Second GalleryI have recently asked for opinions on the matter of dA groups being treated as 'storage dumps' by members. The poll - Do groups have an obligation to act as a 'storage dump' for member's works? - results indicate that 70+ per cent of deviants feel groups are not obligated to collect members works. We have all seen it - a piece of art in more group galleries than you can count on all your fingers and toes twice. That is what I consider treating a group as a storage dump. N.B. This is a personal opinion and nothing more. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Many deviants are members of or w
